Client Situation
- The client manages thousands of websites globally across various markets and numerous internal and external teams.
- They had a global directive to "be compliant" by a given date to mitigate the risk of fines and reputational damage.
- However, they had no way to monitor compliance across their entire estate, the volume of websites precluded a manual review, and no automated mechanism existed.
Our Contribution
- Manual review of 15 key sites to establish a baseline of reality versus expectations and implemented remediation.
- Implemented over 1000 automated audits covering the whole EU using a tool called ObservePoint to assess adherence to the client's compliance approach.
- Built scripts to retrieve this data via the ObservePoint API, collated the results into a combined data set, created a compliance scoring mechanism, and visualised this in Power BI along with robust filters to allow drill-down into the data.
- Set a 2-week cadence for running the audits, pulling the data and regenerating the report, to allow progress to be tracked over time.
- Worked with the client data team to productionise this into their cloud environment.
Results
- The top 15 EU sites were now compliant, covering the majority of traffic and significantly reducing the risk of fines and reputational damage.
- The client now has an ongoing mechanism for monitoring compliance globally, which is unique in the market.
- The client also received a playbook of how to achieve compliance on the remaining sites, which combined gives an accurate view of current state and a clear route to achieve compliance across their entire estate.
